Guide Right

Guide Right is our National Service Initiative and includes all our youth-oriented programs. However, the Flagship Initiative of the Guide Right Service Program is the Kappa Leadership Development League (Kappa League).  Guide Right is a youth program which provides inspirational, mentoring, educational and occupational guidance by facilitating youth access to training and networking opportunities with successful role models.  We focus on developing leadership, creating an achievement mindset, and mentoring.  We have mentored over 500,000 young people.  IN THE US, WE ARE THE OLDEST, MOST SUCCESSFUL MENTORING PROGRAM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR!

Kappa League

Kappa League is a subset of Guide Right, our National Service Initiative. It was designed to help young men, grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every field of human endeavor.  It provides both challenging and rewarding experiences, which richly enhanced their lives. Membership is open to male students from the sixth through the twelfth grades. The fraternity seeks to help these young men thrive as leaders, achieve worthy personal goals and make constructive contributions to their family and community. Kappa League was founded in 1969, by the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc., at Alain LeRoy Locke High School. Kappa League was adopted by the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. at the 56th Grand Chapter Meeting in 1970. The founders of the Kappa Instructional Leadership League were Mel L. Davis and Elder Watson Diggs Awardee, Edgar H. Bishop.

Local Program

Our local Program supports all interested youth in North San Diego, South Riverside and Orange Counties. It is a collaboration with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s E.M.B.O.D.I. program. Kappa League’s purpose is to provide access to successful, predominately African American male role models who will inspire, counsel, coach, tutor and mentor our youth in areas that include math, science, reading, writing, self-esteem, leadership, police interactions, life experiences and subsequent career choices.  This is a sustainable, non-discriminatory program with the basic objectives to;

These objectives are accomplished through a structured, on-going program conducted once per month with Kappa League, and supplemented by once-a-month meetings with our sorority partner, Delta Sigma Theta. We work with youths in secondary school who typically stay with our program through high school graduation.

Because our members have overcome many of the challenges these youth face, they are an effective and credible resource. They can make a real connection as a rare positive role model in their lives!
